So, there's going to be two parts to this question, the first is the stupid situation that I'm in now, and then the second part is how to plan better for the future.
The laptop that I use is a Dell Inspirion that's a little bit less than a year old. It came with Windows 7, however I have a separate partition that runs Ubuntu, and is the much larger partition. The system currently boots Ubuntu by default.
The current problem is that its stopped receiving any charge from the adapter. Between research online and my own attempts to debug it and an hour with tech support, it looks like the problem is either a problem with the DC jack or the motherboard. As I'm under warranty still, I'll be having a tech come out to replace the jack and motherboard some point this week. My immediate question that I can't find a good answer for is how my OSes, my data, and dual-booting will be effected by this. A lot of stuff I found talked about upgrading components, but here it should be an exact replacement. Should I be able to boot right up when I get the new motherboard, or are there particular concerns I need to be worried about here?
The second part of this, because I don't like the week wait to see if my data is all okay, is if there are good, automatic, back-up systems to use for my data so that I don't have something dumb like this happen again. I've looked into some options, but it seems like they're either just Windows, or just Linux. Is there a good way to do this for multiple OSes stored in separate partitions so that I don't have to use 2 different services to make back-ups or have to do all the backing up manually, which I get too lazy about and end up in my current situation.
