External HDD Slows PC, has Active Time at 100% but 0mb/s Read Write Speed

Post Body

As the title suggests, I have a 5tb External that has a lot of family photos and precious memories on it, as well as documents I can't replace. I was wondering if there was any advice on getting an External to connect back to the PC, even if it's just for a little bit for me to copy all the files over.

The External in question is a WD ‎WDBU6Y0050BBK-WESN, 5 TB. Just bought last year for the exact purpose of holding a lot of family photos and such.

When I plug it in, the light is solid, and the external seems to connect fine, but then after a few seconds the light starts blinking and doesn't stop. The Drive appears in my Task Manager with its active time graph and reading set to 100%, but the read write speed is 0 mb/s and the average response time is 0 ms.

The weirder part is that it seems to slow down my PC, and while the drive does appear in windows explorer, it can not be entered or right clicked without freezing Windows Explorer, it doesn't have the bar below showing how full it is, and Disk Manager and other programs like Crystal Disk lock up and don't update while it is plugged in.

I'm sure the drive is dying, and I'm starting to despair that I'm really screwed. but since it still connects I would like to try and grab the items off of it. Any help would be a life saver. Thanks guys.
