Hi
I'm not even sure of what exactly I'm asking for since I feel like I have a rough idea of what I want to do but there are little details that escape me that are sort of pulling at my brain.
I have been tasked with starting a compost at my school (K-5) lead by students. I'm not much of a gardener and have very little experience with this sort of thing.
I have already read the posts about this topic on the forum (thanks to everyone with the good questions and comments, it's been helpful so far). I am thinking of doing little bins in each room, with our compost team helping go class to class to dispose of the little bins in the big compost bin.
We have a community garden but it's only half viable (no one has really cared for it this summer except me and one other helper). Once you have the compost, how do you lead the students in using it in the gardens?
And for the compost team, we are thinking of doing breakfast and lunches. Lunch is pretty easy, we can have the kiddos designate which bin when the tables get up to clear away their waste/compost.
The breakfasts are harder, each class gets their breakfast and I believe dispose of them in the classroom. What would be the best way to minimize disruption and also get the compost from the second floor to the basement compost? I'm thinking of using a sub station in each wing of the hallway that the compost team can take, but that could become messy or challenging to lift.
ANy and all advice is very appreciated!
New to reddit so I also don't know what conventions I should follow, sorry!
