I came across this Zizek clip this morning, where Zizek spends a couple minutes denouncing populism, specifically left-wing populism; he says that he's against Maoists on this because if he were to go out into the streets of Europe, the people would suggest throwing out all the immigrants.
I think Zizek is overlooking a key characteristic of Maoism - at least, to my understanding - that is the education and therefore liberation of the public. I don't think any Maoists/MLMs right now are suggesting to immediately go to the streets, see what the current public consensus is about a specific issue, and act according to the consensus. Am I wrong here?
