Hello! I’m turning 23 soon and I’m a complete greenhorn when it comes to commercial fishing. I’ve been looking for a vessel to board and once of the first places I decided to check was the US Department of Labor’s Seasonal Jobs List. Upon searching “Deckhand” here, I get what looks like a whole host of opportunities! Unfortunately, what I figured out is that 95% of those listings are copies of each other in everything but the business name. The contact information is the same the whole way through. Has anyone here ever worked as a deckhand/header there in Texas? Or know “kgarcias trawler”? Why would somebody do that?
