Where to start reading Amazing Spider Man?

Having just got marvel unlimited i'm wondering at what point i should start reading the Amazing Spider-Man.
Most other post recommend starting with newer runs but I'd like to read as much of the back catalog as I can that is worth reading, however from the few issues of it I have read a large amount seems to be one-offs most of which i don't find too interesting.
So I'd like to know who's run to begin with and if theres any essential previous issues to read before it.
