So, I think I've been a pretty avid comic book reader for a little more than a year now and the experience has been really amazing and being surrounded by like-minded individuals who loves this form of in this community is spectacular. I'm finally starting to pick out my favorite writers and artists, (Give me a Justice League or an Avengers book with Grant Morrison and Kenneth Rocafort drawing it and I'll go cuckoo for cocoa puffs lol) and I can say that I'm an addict now.
But there are still certain things that bother me and make me question whether I'm truly a fan or not. For example, I am not the biggest fan of Dan Slott and if you don't like him, people will chew you out and some will even go so far that you're not a fan of Spider-Man when he is my favorite comic book character.
Also, if you don't ship Peter and MJ or Clark and Lois, you will get ridiculed and judged harshly for it just because you don't ship the ship that's been iconic for many years and for that reason alone. I'm pretty sure I've had a tumblr account unfollow me because I told him that I'm not the biggest fan of Peter and MJ as a ship and I prefer him with a heroine someone like Carol Danvers or Jessica Drew.
Remember that one time when someone posted on r/spiderman about how this person was going to commit suicide just because MJ was on a cover of an Iron Man book because this person thought that MJ was gonna be fucking Tony? Yeah....that post reminded me of how insane Peter/MJ shippers can be.
Of course I'm not saying that this everyone does or act like this, but every time I bring up the subject about how it would be neat to see Peter Parker in a relationship with a superheroine or how I like Clark and Diana as a couple, I've had experiences of being hit with a major shitstorm of angry or passive aggressive comments.
It'll be something that I'll get through and just like my own thing and ship the couples that I ship, but it was on my mind for awhile so I thought I wanted to share these thoughts. :)
