Can anyone recommend a comic where Batman goes out of his way to personally help someone?

I’m having a little difficulty articulating exactly what it is I’m looking for, but I’ll give it my best shot. So we all know there are lots of different iterations of Batman, and those different iterations emphasize different parts of his personality. As much as I love Batman as a dark, avenging, crime fighter, I have a real appreciation for stories where he gets personally invested in standing up for, or helping one person who really needs him. Being more of a guardian angel, advocate, or role model, as opposed to just fighting random thugs or super villains. I think this quote from Amanda Waller in JLU states it well: “For all his fierce exterior, I’ve never met anyone who cares as much about his fellow man as Bruce Wayne.”

Here are a few examples that might help get my thoughts across:

  • The JLU episode where Batman sits with Ace until she passes away.

  • The ending of The Batman where he realizes he wants to be a symbol of hope, not just vengeance.

  • A couple of comic pages posted in the Batman sub awhile back, where Batman fought a bad guy, and was especially pissed because the dude was abusive to his son and forgot his birthday. (I think this might have been a Tom King comic? Not sure though…)

I hope this all makes sense. Basically stories that show Batman being compassionate and getting invested in helping individual people, as opposed to just protecting the monolith of “Gotham City”. Thank you in advance for the recommendations!
