I think the demands of the protesters are too broad and vague to have any hope of producing tangible results. From some of the rhetoric you'd think Columbia was sending checks directly to Netanyahu.
The school has a massive investment portfolio that is being managed by professionals and is likely extremely diverse. While I believe change is possible (the university has put out statements saying that we do not invest in any oil or gas companies), I'm not sure exactly what change people want and the demands I have seen contain no specifics.
Divest from companies owned by Israeli people? Divest from all companies that contract with Israel's government for anything? Divest from defense companies that work with the U.S. government and directly / indirectly provide Israel with weapons? Some of these demands are feasible, some are probably not.
I doubt Columbia or any University will make its whole portfolio public, but if you have more specific demands you may get a resolution where Columbia makes a statement similar to the ones it has made about fossil fuels and promises to divest from a more specific set of companies going forward.
Columbia shouldn’t negotiate with terrorists
