Tangential to thru hiking/CT discussion--I'm planning a 3-4 night bike tour/bikepacking route roughly following the South Platte River from its headwaters to Denver.
Ideally I would ride segment 1 of the CT as it is a direct link between Platte River Road and Waterton Canyon. At the moment, my budget doesn't allow a bunch of bikepacking-specific gear, but I have a trusty rig including Ortlieb back-roller panniers. Here's the Q: is the single track of segment 1 gonna hack my panniers to death or is it passable? I assume this is a fairly well-trafficked and well-maintained stretch of trail, which gives me hope that my "wide load" might be okay. The width of the bags hardly exceeds the width of my flat bars.
I am fully prepared to hike a bike as needed. I just have to traverse those ten or so miles to be home free into the metro area. Hoping to gain some insight on this segment of trail from anyone who's been there, thanks, fellow hikers, bikers, adventurers!
