Post Body

Spent 3 days, 2 nights (Thurs to Sat) backpacking in the Holy Cross Wilderness from the Missouri Lake TH to the Halfmoon TH.
Beautiful views of the alpine lakes and passes the entire trip. Trail was well marked except for the transition from the 4x4 trail to hunky dory TH. In this case, there was a false trail on the west side of the bend when the actual trail was found on the north side of the road. Still some snow fields on the east side of fancy pass. We didn’t have any trouble coming down them at night. Might be a slog going west and gaining elevation. Passed some nice camping spots at Missouri lake as well as the north side of hunky dory lake. Decent camping at Lake Constantine, looked like the best spots were to be found on the south side. As far as volume, we maybe saw a handful of people until we came upon Lake Constantine. This could also be due to us starting out on a Thursday. Fancy pass TH looked pretty crowded when we came to grab the spare vehicle on Saturday. Watch out for the side-by-sides on the drive to the trailhead, they aren’t intelligent enough to not go 60 around blind turns. Overall great trip. I’d rate the hike as mid-strenuous but manageable. Finding water is by no means a worry this time of year. Mosquitos were better than expected. Permethrin treated clothes and periodically sprayed backcountry off to keep them at bay.
