Middlebury ED (only application)
no financial aid
Demographics: white, male, eastern MA, highly regarded private school, legacy
ACT: superscore 33 (31, 30, 30 were individual tests) -- Midd superscores the ACT
SAT: 1920 (didn't submit)
SAT II: Bio 750, US History 790, a few more that I forget (I didn't submit any of these)
Class rank: n/a
GPA: n/a (school doesn't release GPA, just transcript) -- I realize this isn't very informative. I had an A- average including the first quarter of my senior year, roughly. I don't know how to calculate GPA, but if someone does I'd edit the post and include it.
courses: all courses taught at the honors level, AP Euro (5), AP US History (5), AP French (4), AP Lit self-study (4), taking AP AB Calc this year
Awards: PSAT award (whatever the lowest level of it is -- not sure what it's called), National French Exam (Silver?)
EC's:
Head of Debate, Model UN, global affairs discussion and outreach group, editor for the paper, lacrosse manager, football player, skier, Eagle Scout, intern at US congress member's office
My essay was about my travel experiences. I have been to over 30 countries and picked three to share in my essay. I tied them all together by saying that experiences in each of these countries helped me become more accepting of other people's cultures.
Looking back, I'd say that the best part of my application was my EC's. I have read and heard advice about selective college admissions that say to focus on one extracurricular activity and to become really good at it. I didn't do that. I chose a set of activities that I enjoy that also develop a certain set of skills. Debate, Model UN, and the discussion group all use very similar skillsets.
Here's the list of other schools I was considering if I didn't get in to my top choice: Boston College, Bowdoin, Colby, Dartmouth, and Tufts. I probably would have adjusted this list had I not been accepted to Middlebury.
