Hi guys! I’m a HS senior who has decided to attend U of Michigan next year, and I am considering attempting to walk on to the baseball team. Before this year I would’ve thought it was crazy, but I had a really good year, and I don’t think I am ready to give up the sport. My coach (played D1 as well) told me it is worth a shot, so now I am really thinking about it. I am an average hitter, but many coaches have said I have been the best defensive outfielder in my area in a while. If I decided to try and walk on the only thing I would bring to the team would be defense, as my hitting is subpar for D1 standards.
So first, is it worth it for me to try and walk on, and second, for those who have walked on, what’s it like? How much is the time commitment, and is anything different as a walk on? Also any tips for my next steps would be appreciated. Thanks!
