I am in this hobby for the dopamine factor, not the "i must have everything graded and preserved to museum quality" guy. I have a number of wheat pennies as my most common coin that i exchange from my register at work, those and silver nickels.
Since I'm finally getting a decent amount of them i'm looking for a cheap way to home make a display for them and i have a few questions.
Firstly, does wood(finely sanded of course) do much damage to coins? Secondly, how about styrofoam? I have the idea to make it like a collecting book where you try to get one from each mint for each year, so my thought is could i get a block of Styrofoam or a very soft wood and cut notches in it about 1/3 of the total diameter of the coin so it will rest but have most of it displayed vertically instead of taking up large pages of a book.
Is this a decent idea? Adding this as an afterthought, should i maybe find a way to line the notches with something like felt, silk, or nylon to prevent more scratching? Taking any and all ideas so thank you in advance
