What's in the slab? Debris?

Bought some coins today from my LCS. This beautiful 2003-S caught my eye (particularly due to its my birth year). Upon further admiration and inspect when I got home I noticed what looks to be debris of some sort in the slab along the rim of the cent. Has any once else experienced this?
I've attempted to research this and haven't been able to find any information on debris in slabbed coins. I did however verify the authenticity of the slab.
