Been having a rough month and figured maybe I could do something to make somebody else feel good. Went through my collection and selected three coins to giveaway to three people. It's absolutely free (I'll pop it in an envelope and ship it to you at no cost. Only people in the continental US [sorry].)
The coins are:
- 1940 British threepence
- 1956 Lincoln cent (the flip says it's an "error" - "filled 9" / "cracked skull." I have no idea if this is a legitimate error to be honest)
- 2001 US Capitol commemorative half dollar
To enter:
Leave a comment about a coin that reminds you of someone you love/d (it could be one gifted to you, one you inherited, or just one with a design that reminds you of something about that person) AND a number between 1 and 500.
I'll pick three random numbers next Friday, 9/29, and announce the winners here. Good luck.

GIVEAWAY RESULTS
First, it’s incredible how many people took the time to tell their stories in the comments. I did not expect the amount of beautiful memories you all would share. Also, a deep thank you from the heart to everyone who wished me well ❤️
The reason I had this contest end today is that today marks 10 years since my grandmother passed away. When I was in middle school, she let me pick out a few coins she had saved over the years from her large collection. One of them was a 1921 Morgan dollar. She wasn’t a numismatist, but she saved anything that was silver or that was unusual. At the same time, my other grandmother gifted me a 1922 Peace dollar.
Those coins helped inspire what would become a great passion for coin collecting in my early teens that grew into a rather large collection. Unfortunately, in 2008, I found myself in a desperate situation where I had to sell every coin in my collection, including the ones from my grandmothers. While that still hurts all these years later, I was lucky enough to inherit more coins from one of my grandmothers and I’m happy to be building a new collection.
Anyway, the winning numbers were drawn randomly at 12:00am on Friday, September 29.
British threepence winner: 218 pumpkin_xp
Lincoln cent winner: 327 Impossible-Control65 (two people chose this number, so the winner was the one who chose it first)
Capitol half winner: 257 NaraFox257
I will send the three of you a private message for your shipping details.
Thanks again to everyone who commented - I hope to do something like this again in the future.
My favorite coin is the 2020 American Silver Eagle "Emergency Issue"
At the height of the pandemic, the West Point facility had to shut down. The mint rushed the dies for the 2020 American Silver Eagle to Philadelphia to continue operations. From April 8th - April 20th, 2020 the Philadelphia facility produced 240,000 ASE's.
This coin represents a special place in my collection. I lived through Covid and coin collecting was the one thing that kept me sane. Even though this coin is completely indistinguishable from any other SAE, it represents a dark time in my and my country's life. I put it in my Dansco 7070. Like any good coin, this one has a great story to tell.
