I've read/listened to multiple reviews. Some people like the combat and the story. Some people say the combat is bad and the story is bad. The one point of consensus is that the character creation system is incredibly robust, and I do like that, but I own other games which do robust character creation.
Context: I think Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the greatest action game since Ninja Gaiden Black. I am not a fan of Dark Souls and Bloodborne; Dark Souls is way too slow, and Bloodborne felt like driving a tank. Sekiro's parrying system and absolute insistence on aggressive play, paired with smooth controls, is my ideal. If I buy this game, I will be comparing it directly to Sekiro, which I've spent hundreds of hours on since it released in March. Is it going to be a favorable comparison?
The other Soulslike I really enjoyed is Nioh. Does Code Vein's combat stack up, if not to Sekiro, then at least to Nioh?
The other thing that gives me pause about this game is that I have a terminally low tolerance for Anime Bullshit. The screens and videos I've seen of this game already have people walking around in the postapocalypse in nightgowns with their tits hanging out. Are they also going to spend their time discussing the virtues of politeness and angrily insisting that they don't like me even while their sprites have Anime I-Like-You-Blush-Lines? More context: Persona 5 is one of my favorite RPGs in recent memory, and I'm looking forward to the updated rerelease in 2020, and it definitely skirted the boundaries of my tolerance for Anime Bullshit at times. Am I going to be rubbing my temples through every line of dialogue in this game?
That's all, folks. Thanks much. :)
