Does ginger pair with gimlets?

Forgive me if this isn't something I should be making a post about but I'm new to cocktails in general and don't know too many recipes or pairings and want other people's input.
I made a gimlet for the first time and it struck me as something ginger would go really well in if I muddled a little bit of fresh ginger in. Is this something people already do? Any opinions?
Edit:
The Gimlet I made specifically if it matters is:
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 3/4 oz simple syrup
- 2 oz Ford's gin
