I made homemade ginger beer, but it smells a bit like vinegar. Is this normal?

I filled a 2 liter bottle with ginger juice from 4 oz ginger, juice of 1 lemon, 1 cup sugar, and water until almost full.

EDIT: I briefly saw a comment here but I must've accidentally deleted it in some way from my phone (if that's even possible), but I did sterilize the bottle, and I used baking yeast instead (I read online that baking yeast can be used as a substitute). Also, now that I smell it again, it isn't really like vinegar, but I just can't describe the smell. It smells a bit acidic.

EDIT: tastes just like ginger beer. Doesn't smell like it though
