Hey all. Need help with a batching recipe for Gold Rushes, aka Bourbon Honey Smashes.
Last year I did this for my dad's birthday and went with a ratio of:
2 parts bourbon (Evan Williams bottled in bond) 1 part lemon juice 1 part honey 1 part distilled water
And then I had a whole bunch of mint that slapped around, put in a big tea decanter, and floated in the huge sangria dispenser I mixed everything in.
It was a hit, but the mint really didn't come forward and the honey needed a lot of whisking in the colder liquid to dissolve all the way.
I want to up the ante this time with a few new approaches. I was thinking of doing a honey syrup instead of straight honey have it dissolve better, and I want to do something different to get the mint to come forward a little more without having to garnish every cup since it's a party.
I saw a post reference oleo saccharum for lemon syrup and wondered if that might go well here too? Do you do oleo-saccharun on top of lemon juice or in place of? Is there a similar method for producing mint oils? Would the mint oils overpower the batch?
Looking for any and all opinions and knowledge on the matter. Cheers!
No. Honey n and water in the pot. After dissolved add the mint. It wonโt need long and the flavor will be fresher
I never thought of a mint syrup. That would be nice. But the flavor would be different. I would just shake w fresh mint before serving. I addition to the mint syrup
