What is your traditional margarita recipe?

Post Body

I’m trying to gather data on how people on /r/cocktails commonly create their margaritas. Then, I want to create a sort of ‘aggregate recipe’ that represents the most common elements of everyone’s recipes, so please try to be as specific as possible.

So what’s your go-to traditional margarita recipe? I’ll happily post the results when it’s all said and done!

When making margs at home n feeling lazy I just drop a heavy bar spoon of sugar squeeze the lime on top and give it a swirl. I feel like lime dissolves the sugar quickly. Maybe it’s in my head. Also a sprinkle of salt I like big salt and finding a crystal throughout the drink is nice.

This is my spec. But I never have agave so just use sugar or simple

Been through most of these and some are good and some are better. And there’s a few things to consider when making a perfect margarita, for you! Or we going blanco or aged? Sweet or sour? But for me there are some basics to follow first off, get a good tequila. I like Lalo blanco right now. Next you need a good mix. No, not that stuff in a bottle. You need to get, 9 limes, 3 lemons and an orange, you’ll only use half its juice. If you like it sweet you can add half of its volume in sweetener. This mix makes around 16oz (without the sugar). After this you need a good orange liqueur, I like Granma, it’s sweet n flavorful. Don’t skimp either. I want a full oz in there. A sprinkle of chunky salt in the shaker along with some hand cracked ice. There’s no need to strain (provided you strained the juices while making the mix) you want all that ice particulate.

2oz good tequila (Lalo)

1oz good orange liqueur (Grand Marnier)

1oz lime juice mix

1 sprinkle chunky salt

*1 bar spoon sugar or simple.

I like to hand crack clear ice to medium sized chunks. Throwing all the crushed pieces in the shaker also. I also like my drinks strong so reallly up the Lalo to 3. Shake vigorously and dirty dump into glass. It’s tart and forward. Especially good when the warm night skies melt the ice just a little.
