What helps you with moderating or quitting altogether

I won’t be so naive to assume that I can moderate. I don’t know if there’s a way to manage my use but it has definitely been hard trying. If there is a way, I’ve not found it yet but assuming it’s probably unlikely. I am having a hard time with the idea of abstinence but hope that I can get there. Either way, and in the meantime, waited to ask what some of you do when you’re looking to cut back or quit altogether (that’s not going to 12 step meetings) and what’s been successful for you.
