“Thank you all for coming here today. This will be a short press briefing. As you all know I am running for parliament in this riding, South West Ontario, for the Conservative Party of Canada. I am proud to call myself conservative and to be a member of this party. I will do everything I can to improve the lives of my constituents should they choose to elect me as their MP.”

The reporters scribble a few notes.

“As our party programme said we are standing up for Canada, but I will not stop at that. If I am elected as the MP for South West Ontario I will promise to stand up for Ontario in Parliament as well. I will do my best to represent my riding and its interests in Parliament just as much as I will represent all Canadians.”

“If elected I will especially focus on better international relationships between Canada and the United Kingdom, one of our closest allies and friends. I believe Canada should commit herself to CANZUK, a free trade agreement between Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. I even think we should look into expanding the agreement to other Commonwealth nations if possible. The Commonwealth is especially important to me, and I oppose any ideas of Canada becoming a republic in the near future.”

“Another important area for me in Canadian politics is the our sovereignty in the Arctic. We must defend our position in the Arctic as it becomes more and more important in the future. Especially the Northwest Passage might become a vital shipping route in the future, and that could become vital for Canadian interests. This also means that certain border disputes with countries like Denmark in the Arctic could become more dramatic in the future, which we must avoid if at all possible. Denmark is our ally in NATO, and internal squabbles within the organisation would be undesirable.”

“Lastly I would like to encourage everyone to vote both in my riding and in all of Canada. Voter participation in important in any democracy, and it ensures that whoever represents Ontarians and Canadians have a clear and correct mandate to act on behalf of their riding and country.”
