Good evening.
The Pirate Party over recent weeks have consistently been calling for an election in order to end the chaos that has been all too present in our political discourse. The merger of the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party, as well as the formation of the People’s Party of Canada, Greens, New Democratic Group and even more recently the Citizens! Irrespective of whether some of these splits and defections were justified, it is simply undeniable that Parliament was no longer reflective of what the Canadian people voted for at the last General Election.
Since my appointment as Leader of the Opposition, I have tried where possible to scrutinise the former Prime Minister and Government with one consistent message - call a General Election and let the people decide who they trust to represent them and their interests. I’m pleased to say that this election is now coming thanks to the Pirate Party.
Earlier tonight following the resignation of SaskPoliticker, I accepted the role of Prime Minister after Pirate Leader Ben’s decline of the role, with the intention of ensuring that we give the people a democratic say. Accordingly, in the moments that followed my appointment, I advised the Governor General to dissolve Parliament in order to trigger an election. I didn’t enter politics with the aspiration of high office and privileges, but rather to represent the people in whatever capacity I am able to.
In the coming election campaign, we will set out the vision and policies that underpin the principles of the Pirate movement and a fairer Canada. Although some may call it unlikely that I will be Prime Minister for long, I am pleased to facilitate the continued democratic processes that underpin our society, and am proud to represent you - the Canadian people - in this role. Thank you.
