Friends, I have been in office for a short time now, but in that short time I’ve been able to deliver leaps and bounds in public policy, all thanks to the possibilities that arise from cooperating across the aisle.
Politicians are elected to serve the people, but far too often they only end up serving themselves. I was proud to work with members from the Pirate Party and Liberal Party on policies from financing our national defence and armed forces, to cutting taxes and balancing the budget, to a Guaranteed Basic Income and funding for transit safety.
Some of these policies were not of my own making, but I nonetheless recognized their worth and pursued them with the same vigour that I would have if they were my own.
I will not go on about what my colleagues in the house from the Pirate Party and what certain representatives have now done, but I will say that I am disappointed that after working so hard and well and delivering so much these same colleagues who were once interested in cooperative government have now abandoned the concept and their own proposed policies as if they had meant nothing to them at all.
But this shall not deter my efforts. You elected me to serve you, and I will do that job in and out of government. I ask that you continue offering your vision, ideas, and perspectives to me so that I can bring your priorities with me into board rooms, committees, and the house to make your lives better, to build a better future for your family, for your kids, for future generations of Canadians in the Prairies.
Thank you for your support, and I encourage you all to contact my office via email or phone any time.
I work for you, not for a political party or my own political career, and I will continue working as hard as I can for you all, as long as I am your Member of Parliament in the Prairies.
