Today CPC Leadership hopeful Model-Marshall denied reports that he orchestrated a caucus revolt to oust fmr. CPC leader FreedomCanada5202, and that he pitched the idea of supporting an NDP-led government in closed-door discussion within his party.
The allegations from an Social Credit Leader Infamous_Whole7515 say that they were personally told by Model-Marshall that he had led a caucus revolt to get FreedomCanada5202 removed as leader before a party constitution-mandated VoC vote. Further, the leader alleges that talks amongst various smaller parties and Model-Marshall had made preliminary plans to place NDP co-leader and current Speaker Hayley-182 in the PMO's office, with the CPC giving confidence and supply. However, CPC caucus members shut down these ideas in closed-door meetings.
Fmr. CPC leader FreedomCanada5202 corroborated claims that there was disagreement between leadership and caucus regarding the direction of the party post-election but denied any hostile caucus revolt. In an interview with CBC, the former leader said:
“ Other members …had a different path they wished to take… there was no push for me to step down. I [saw] the writing on the wall and decided to [step down] to speed the process up.”
Model-Marshall further denied the allegations by posting the following on X (formerly Twitter)
With a single seat in the House of Commons, this move would be a rather unprecedented parliamentary setup. Governments have been formed by parties that finish in second (BC 2017, ON 1985), but always with the support of parties smaller than the main governing party.
