As the newly-appointed Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, I have decided that I will be seeking to implement 94 key recommendations outlined in this report.
Among these, are ways to protect the welfare of aboriginal children. One of the recommendations outlined in the report states that we should be "monitoring and assessing neglect investigations". I hope to carry this out by introducing strict inspections to care homes nationally, and in particular those in communities with a high number of aboriginal children. I would like to ensure that care homes across the country are thoroughly checked and inspected, in a similar way to how OFSTED operates in schools in the United Kingdom, so that no matter what a child's racial background, they recieve equal treatment when they are most vulnerable.
Another key measure that I will be seeking to implement will be to push for more aboriginal professionals in the healthcare sector to be employed, not only to increase equality in the sector, but also to ensure that traditional aboriginal healing practices can still be used in the healthcare sector when aboriginal patients request them.
These are the most significant of my aims to further the equality, protection and integration of the Aboriginal peoples. I will be aiming to implement the majority of the recommendations outlined in the report.
