Tomorrow is my first Triple Arthrodesis... Can't shake the nervousness. How has your surgery been?
Post Body

Tomorrow is my first triple arthrodesis surgery on my left foot, I'll have another on my right once I finish healing.

Between the potential pain, chance for error, and the recovery time it's got me shaken to the core. Anybody have some experiences they'd like to share, good or bad?

Post-Op edit:

My Surgery went really well. Got in early and got all set up. They numbed my skin with lidocaine in every spot they put in an IV/nerve block/catheter so I barely felt a thing. A small twinge of pain with the catheter (in the back of my knee for the pain pump). After that they pretty much immediately brought me into the OR, talked to me for a few minutes, and then knocked me out almost instantly after that.

I woke up about 3 hours later with 5 screws in my ankle and a metal plate. I don't remember too much about it but they even said I got something from a donor? (It's like midnight right now so I can't really ask more info about it and was too focused on getting back home earlier to really press for more info). The worst pain I've had so far was in the car ride home because I couldn't keep my foot elevated above my heart. And I'm extra grateful for the nerve block and the pain pump I have. Got prescribed 5 days of oxy which I'm frankly nervous about taking but I have no intentions of being irresponsible with it.

Some burning, some leg twitching, and not expecting how much heavier my leg is with the splint are the biggest things I've had to deal with. Numbness in the foot is actually a blessing right now so I'm not excited for that to go away haha. I figured I'd update this with my little bit of experience since no one seemed to have a story to share and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask!

edit 2: less than 48 hours after the surgery the nerve block wore off and my pain pump is almost gone. Even with the oxycodone my pain is at about a constant 3 and fairly sharp. But I've noticed my foot does look more lined up with my knee. Hoping the pain doesn't get too much worse but even if it does I'll get through it. My wife has been awesome at taking care of me and I'm looking forward to 6 months from now when I'll be able to walk on it haha.

edit 3: 14 days after the surgery, just had my splint removed yesterday. My foot is really sore and the staples hurt like a bitch on the sensitive parts but were no more than a bee sting kind of feeling. Had three good incisions and got quite a few pics I can post if anyone is interested. My toes felt heavy out of the splint - I'm assuming because the tendons are sore plus I didn't want to move my foot too much and hurt it. My big toe has the most difficulty moving even after having my cast put back on, and I know that's from the tendon. The ache proves it haha. But the pain is pretty much entirely gone aside from a few pangs here and there. Itching and discomfort abound still but not much for real pain. The new cast is much smaller, lighter, and so far seems more comfortable but it's not completely dry yet. Since the surgery I've been taking calcium and vitamin D like candy. I don't think I'd have made half the recovery I have though without my wife being there helping me out this whole time. She's really gone above and beyond.
