Homemade clay is sticky

Post Body

So me and the kids found a spot on a river we live on that the sand had washed away and it was just clay....east Texas....i dont know what kind of clay it is but hoping i can heat it in a oven to make it nice and hard....so i mixed it in water and sifted it through a screen and other materials to get everything out....waiting for it dry....i took a small piece and it dried fast so startedmessing with it earlier and its super sticky....

Unless you keep your hands wet...trying to think back to pottery making stuff i have seen and it is a wet process right? Is there anything i can add to the clay so its not so sticky annd messy or is water the only answer?.
