Why am I being asked to add people on Discord for boosting?

I couldn't find anything via Google about it, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question or a repost ... why is a Discord whatsoever necessary to boost someone through Stratholme or any other instance? I see somebody advertise it, I reach out, they ask if I have a Discord, I say 'yes, why?' and they never explain why even after I repeat the question.

I'm not trying to be deliberately difficult, I just can't get a straight answer out of any of the multiple people I've asked.
