I don't like Modernists ... What am I missing about them?
Post Body

This past Friday night, I went to the NY Philharmonic's Contact series where three modern pieces were played. Two of them were Elliot Carter's Two Controversies and A Composition and Michael Jarrell: NACHLESE Vb: Liederzyklus. Neither of them did much for me. To me, most modern music sounds devoid of a melody and seems too cacophonic. It sounds almost like the composers are trying to get away from the traditional sounds and end up creating noise.

So tell me, what am I missing about modern "classical" music?
