Hello all,
I am currently a high school senior and I play saxophone. I want to major in music and either do saxophone performance (and eventually teach at a university) or, where my passion is, conducting. I went to a summer music festival this year with a strong orchestra program, and I fell in love with all the music and lit they played. I have always wanted to be in an orchestra, but I beat myself up every day for not picking an orchestral instrument. I have always loved conducting, though. I am drum major in my band, so I conduct marching band ( yeah, I know, BIG difference), but I enjoy it. So I ask, is there an chance for me to go into the orchestral conducting field even though I am a saxophonist (assuming I learn rep, etc.) Also, how competitive is the field?
Thanks
