i have a strong memory of recently reading an article about the debut performance of gymnopedie no. 1, that it was a theatrical type setting, which included actors or performers of some sort, and that the music itself was only present as a background to the performers actions, but then it was revealed afterward that the music was the point and the human element was almost a distraction, serving to illustrate the ethereal qualities of the composition. i can't find the article and i am trying to figure out if this was about a different piece of music or if i somehow dreamt up the whole scenario. any historians care to weigh in?
