Calling all Civcrafters!
CivRedemption will be releasing its closed test server this Saturday! 2/26. Please come help us refine our mechanics with your suggestions based on the brief closed test! CivRedemption is a new minecraft server that plans to simulate nation-building in minecraft. We hope that our mechanics encourage nation-building and add new and enjoyable elements to the game.
The following elements are subject to change! Please join our closed test server (via the link above) to help us judge these mechanics, balance them, and add or remove as needed.
New gameplay elements:
A hub server. Civ Redemption will be using bungeecord, so that we can offer players a civ server, a civ creative server, and in the future other servers as well. All in one network. Our creative server features world edit and 100x100 claimable plots.
Obsidian will no longer be generated using spider spawners. Obsidian ore now randomly drops while mining. This ore can be converted in an Iron Forge (an early game factory) to obsidian at a 1:1 rate. In a Foundry (mid game factory) obsidian ore can be converted at a 1:2 rate.
Mana is given to players as an activity reward. Mana is used both in factories (for certain late game tech) and for fueling pearls. We think that this will incentivize groups to be more careful with their mana, only using it for pearls when they feel that a player's pearling is truly justified.
Muskets will be implemented into the game through ProgrammerDan's Addgun plugin. Muskets can only be made in an expensive late-game Gunsmith factory. Muskets and their ammunition are expensive to produce. Muskets are a ranged weapon with low-to-moderate accuracy. Muskets do significant damage both armor and player health, and have a long reload time. Muskets do not combat tag or pearl players. We aim to balance muskets so that they are fun for all players. Musket configuration may be subject to change.
Potions are now brewed in factories. There are two factories involved in the production of potions. A research factory, and a brewing factory. Given a research kit, a research factory has a lottery chance to output a schematic. Schematics can then be used in a brewing factory to produce potions. Schematics are reusable, and can also be traded away. Different schematics produce different potions with different effects.
Experience can be created normally through farming. Botting farms will be allowed. However, a scythe tool can be made in an Iron Forge to harvest a 3x3 of cropland, balancing crop harvesting for those who are non botters. Use of this tool while botting is prohibited.
Scripting:
- On the subject of botting, bots will be allowed to read block data. Instead of forming bot rules regarding script design, bot rules will focus on prohibiting bots from certain aspects of the game. We believe that this is a better way to approach botting rules altogether.
Bots are prohibited from:
- Being used for ore or chunk mining.
- Being used for direct offensive purposes such as attacking other players, or raiding.
- Bots are prohibited from using sycthes (a tool that harvests a 3x3 of a field) to farm.
Recommended botting usages:
- Using bots to farm land.
- Using bots to transport items.
- Using bots to interact with text chat.
- Using bots to monitor snitch activity.
Clientside modifications:
Certain mods are allowed on CivRedemption, including optifine, scripting mods, local radar mods, and minimap mods.
However, mods that allow players to virtually extend the ability to add players to snitch networks, and view the location of players across the map, among other things, are prohibited. This includes specifically mods such as Interpol, Renemod, and Synapse. Do not use these prohibited client modifications, because it makes the game unbalanced. Using modifications in order to obtain an unfair advantage is a serious breach of the rules, and defeats the purpose of games - a competitive and cooperative challenge between players on equal footing.
Why didn't we announce our civ server sooner?
We didn't want to release any information on our server until the final stage of development. We now feel that our server is currently player-ready.
Why is the server running on 1.16?
Initially we wanted the test server to run on 1.18 using the code created by the good people on the CivMC dev team. However, a number of circumstances made this difficult. Firstly, the Ansible script was not yet finished at the time we started the development of CivRedemption. Most of the plugins were still under development, and not quite finished. Additionally, we wanted to focus on testing our server's new mechanics.
We hope that you will enjoy our test server. Because it is a test server, certain elements of gameplay may be changed during the course of the server.
