The blindingly bright Sun towered high in the sky, sending out waves of intense heat. The four travellers struggle as they march onward, drenched in perspiration, each one wondering if he can go on.

They are traversing the harsh, unforgiving desert, seeking their goal: The Tree of Life. Some others had joined them on their quest for the fabled tree, but either turned back or fell into the clutches of the monsters that roamed at night. The four that remained were David, Mental, Jonathan, and Jopi. Led by David, they slept in the blazing heat of the afternoon, fought deadly creatures at night, and walked on the slippery, barren sands of the Augustan Desert.

Sleep, Fight, Walk, repeat.

They had grown weary and started to question the existence of the Tree, but David always convinced them that the Tree was waiting there, for them, for they were called by the universe to complete this task. It all started when he found an old book. As he picked it up, a voice pierced the room, audible to only himself:

There exists life in the desert of death,
You must reach it before your last breath.
The Tree of Life stands proudly tall,
Whose spring waters give life to all.
You and 3 others must accept the quest
And build a temple to pass the test.
If you fail, there be a curse,
A life lived with an eternal thirst.

As the voice repeated the task over and over again, David was struck with visions of the desert, the Tree, and the water of life. He assembled three friends who experienced the Calling, and raced for the tree, before impure villains would take advantage of it.

"A creeper!" screamed Jopi, as he fought off a zombie wave with Jonathan and Mental. Then all of a sudden, Jopi froze. He looked down and didn't move. The others quickly circled around him to protect him, when BOOM, a creeper exploded and severely injured David.

"Keep fighting," he groaned as he collected himself and took note of his injury. Mental crouched to the ground and examined David's wound. Fatal. The blast had thrown him against a boulder, cracking ribs and crushing his organs. David could only survive for a little longer. Mental was bandaging his wounds, as well as preparing his heart for the departure of his leader and friend.

"It can't end like this," he bellowed. He and Jonathan shook Jopi back into reality, and the trio fought with a newfound anger, quickly overcoming the beasts that hurt David. After the battle, they realized they could not move him, in fear of rupturing more organs. The group quickly became discouraged and wondered what to do. They looked around, and found a stream that hadn't been there earlier. Jonathan decided to follow the stream to its source.

Then he found it. The Tree of Life was in the middle of a small oasis. It was what the vision had shown him, and he was awestruck by the unending flow of water from its trunk. Jonathan unconsciously filled his canteen with the spring water and ran as fast as he could to David, filled with a new energy.

Mental and Jopi were treating David as he was entering his last few minutes. They fought back tears as the friend who cared for them, and the leader that led them was dying, never got to complete his quest. As David closed his eyes, he whispered, "Finish the test for me. Keep going. Don't let me hold you-"

"David! David!" Jonathan screamed, "I found it!" He rushed up to David's side and gave him the water. David drank it, and slowly began to show color. The others, amazed, backed up and allowed David to speak. He stood up, refreshed and renewed, and declared,

"Welcome to the City of Goodsprings!"

tl;dr: 4 people go on a quest, David almost dies, Tree of Life heals, Goodsprings is formed.

I made this on a whim guys, it's more of a narrative than a history....
