Clan Leaders, How do you communicate effectively to your members?

I know many use Kik or another form of 3rd party social media, which I love the idea of that. How do you get your current/future members to join in said third party chat apps? I have been asking members to join the clan Kik group and only one of the other 19 members have joined.

Is it something where if I, as clan leader, need to be harsh and kick people who don't read the in-game clan motto (asking them to join in on Kik as well)? I know the top clans use 3rd party apps to communicate so just trying to see how they were successful in that aspect. Thanks in advance!
