After the Infinity War I was tired. I had spent hours upon hours defending vaults, watching my friends have their nations be turned into WW1 trench cities lined with obby, and breaking vault after vault with people. It was tedious, exhausting, and not very fun work.
Granted, knocking over Han's e-legos gave me a sense of satisfaction given my history with him, but all the glory of war dissipates in the midst of constant despair. I lost some friends over the war, I had to watch people get accused of things they aren't. It sucks.
So I, along with many others, took a break from Classics. I personally intended to fade away. I had gotten promoted at my job, I was enjoying time away.
But for some reason, I was inspired to come back recently. I don't know why. Part of it I think had to do with hearing of Realms players coming over here to check out what we had to offer. I think another had to deal with Enforcer ragging on me and missing talking with him and others in VCs.
It was a great decision. The server population is increasing steadily again an I feel fresh. For the first time in a year Icenia is actually building new stuff...not for defense and military, but for the sheer enjoyment of doing it and having fun with it.
I'm seeing new players come onto our streets and into our VC's, also tired of war on realms. They're nice guys. I'm excited to be playing with them, or in the very least, talking with them.
I saw Callum online today, A figure from Civ history who I've been at odds with in the past, but have come to respect immensely. That made me happy.
I can only hope that this trend will continue. To Gabon, Pacem, Imperial Truidence, Yoahtl, Mount September, and the Icenians...thanks for keeping the lights on. Civclassic is a cockroach that refuses to die and is actually feeling revitalized now. I'm excited for the first time in a long time over what the future holds.
