Its no secret that activity has dropped from last year and from the start of this year. Between cities being obbybombed into oblivion, a slow moving war, and many builders and PvPers from both sides being pearled, its bound to get a bit slow. People are exhausted and for good reason. To put so much emotional energy into a game used typically as an outlet from school/work is taxing to many. It was for me and I don't blame anyone else for stepping for a little bit, or for any reason, from vidya because of this.
Recently however, the server has gotten more active. Although a player count of 30 is small, the evidence I have seen through graphs is showing that more and more people are coming back to play. In Icenia last night we had some 6 or 7 people online-the most since February at least.
One of the things that I think perpetuate inactivity though is this narcissistic and gloomy mindset that "civ is dead" because of mods/players/groups/player count/your own goals not being reached. You see this constantly from people and they make it very obvious due to their consistent whining in Discord. This arguably hurts the server more in my mind than any war. It kills moral and it kills people's desires to play with their friends. It needs to stop.
If you don't want to play the server...don't. Go play on whatever other server you think is better and leave this one behind without ruining it for the people invested in playing. The server is only as "dead" as you think it is because you are not playing. If you log in...its no longer dead. Imagine that.
