It seems every bg post is followed by a nick post so I'll be writing this partly to clarify some misconceptions that may be being spread around by bgbba's post and partly to give my own opinion on the matter. So lets get right to it.

The Holy Jaded Empire has left the Western Cooperative Organization due to the combination of drama in Wayrest and then the latest revelations about Konigsberg in such a quick succession. Even before the Konigsberg revelations I was having my doubts about the treaty, but when that happened I was completely done with it. In the future we will be writing bilateral treaties with individual nations with more specific points for each treaty. With this new model we would have many shorter specific treaties with friendly and allied nations in order to specify our relationship to them.

The WCO and HJE's Supposed Support of Southern

My original idea behind the Western cooperative organization was to promote cooperation between other neutral groups on the server. I don't think it is a bad idea, and honestly the treaty and framework itself wasn't bad. You can see our treaty here.

Specifically regarding the part(s) in bg's post where he says

The HJE is using its military to protect Konigsberg while they actively raid Yoahtl on alts

and

I've had enough. Konigsberg has clearly violated the terms of their leaving to the HJE. These raids are very clearly premeditated and done with the full awareness of the HJE and Konigsberg leadership.

and

The HJE has violated its neutrality and is openly supporting acts of war against Yoahtl with military force.

The pertinent part of our treaty would be Section IV C-I which says specifically:

Defense will not be mandated if the member state commits an act of aggression against a belligerent.

We took the idea from the treaty between Lexington and SPQR which stated that neither side was under any obligation to assist in a war of aggression. I thought that was a good idea for maintaining the neutral stance of the Holy Jaded Empire and all its allies. That part was added specifically for this type of situation and the HJE was under no obligation to assist Konigsberg after the revelations, so it didn't.

Even so subsection C-2 also says:

Members may choose not to request aid in defensive conflicts.

This was written in case a dubious request for aid was requested in a "defensive" conflict where the defender was clearly provoking someone without committing an outright act of aggression.

Basically the treaty was written in the wording it had to be largely bullshit-proof. If I sign a treaty with someone I will follow it, and the terms of that treaty seemed very reasonable and I thought my allies could do the same.

As soon as the revelations were shown in the OWL #general chat in Discord, I made myself available for questions in the voice channel. I answered some questions, some people were trying to ask some gotchas, some legitimately wanted clarification on the HJE's position, but it mostly devolved into StateApparatus singing wierd communist songs and being annoying. Overall I'd say that was a successful press conference.

After this, I returned the pearl of Charlameme to Konigsberg as I wanted nothing to do with the situation anymore, luckily for him the pearl glitched out so he's free now. I've since apologized and even offered reparations to him, which he refused.

I was speaking with Southern and the Konigsberg boys in the Civclassics mumble when the stuff in Konigsberg was going down, we had some good bants. While we aren't allies in game, I do still enjoy speaking to SouthernBloc and the rest of them. I do not condone their in game actions and I think SouthernBloc should turn himself in. The leadership of the invasion force has given their word that no citizens will be harmed and nothing will be griefed, the only reason they went there was for Southern. Konigsberg is a wonderful town and I would hate to see it go completely abandoned.

Regarding the Pearling of Charlameme/NicholasCruz

Charlameme was one of eight people in a channel with specific information that got leaked. I was presented evidence of Charlameme trying to frame Daddy1015 for the leaks, and the Konigsberg people wanted me to hold the pearl as per the treaty. This is kind of like a minecraft version of the "are whistleblowers traitors" debate.

NicholasCruz logged on in Mt. Augusta and was pearled by Gantoe at the encouragement of Southern. To clarify, baes20 was completely uninvolved in this process. Gantoe then ran around CW with the pearl waiting for someone to kill him in a "Nipplerock last stand". I appreciated the meme but I wanted to get the pearl in the vault so I killed gantoe, and quickly released him over his deathpile as soon as I got the pearl. This all occurred in an open channel, then Southern and I went into a private channel.

Conclusion

Frankly the way that bg's post frames everything regarding the pearling of Charlameme is quite conspiratorial and ridiculous. I think you were trying to push a narrative without all of the facts at hand, especially with regards to what our treaty says and I'm pretty sure it was floating around for anyone to find. I dragged Blue and bgbba into my private channel in Mumble (make mumble great again - mumble.civclassic.com) and explained the situation. Of course when I dragged bg in he started shouting at me threatening war, but I made my position clear to them that I was not condoning the actions the Konigsberg leadership took and I was not going to be supporting them due to the terms of our treaty. The post bg made went unedited, even after I messaged him about it on Discord.

I understand that a lot of Yoahtlans may dislike me for my previous defense of Southern, and I get it but I thought he should be given the chance to make a town and build up a new community. I want this server to succeed and I want to see a diverse set of communities that made the genre great in the past. I want to see channer fascists having legitimate disagreements with tumblr commies, if I could see that shit again I would really love playing this game. I might stop being jaded. All the memes aside, I have nothing against you or your city, I reserve my distrust and hate for people who have legitimately wronged me. I am not on a PR campaign against your city, and I am certainly not using the "Dark Empire meme war tactics" or whatever against you. Every time I hear people get on the Yoahtl/bg-hate meme train I tell them to calm down with that stuff. I have a respect for bg and I think we need more people like bg playing this game who give a shit about the community, and I have a respect for Yoahtl and I think we need more towns like it.

This is why I want more people to use mumble, including you Yoahtlans. I think with Discord everyone gets into their own little circlejerk bubble in their own community and Mumble helps really helps with that. When you can easily channel hop and meet new people from different towns you get a different view of them. Sure you can do that in Discord but you need an invite and it is much easier with mumble, it lends itself to a community. Discord has lent itself to more factionalization of the community, and I really think that is bad.
