Let's talk about Cultural Victory strategies! I've managed to get my Immortal Science Victories under 260ish turns regularly, but it seems like getting a Cultural Victory in under 300 turns is somewhat difficult considering it requires not only the same tech-ing capacity as a Science VC, but also a significant amount of hammers diverted to Wonders. Anyone have any good tips or gambits they'd like to share?
Some questions:
What do you save Oxford University for?
Do you micro GPs to pop a simultaneous GA GE along the way? Do you bother attempting to generate GEs? If so, what do you save GEs for?
Renaissance has 3 critical Wonders that need to be built. How do you handle this (at higher difficulties)? GE rush Leaning Tower and pop a subsequent GE for Porcelain Tower is what I usually do for Science VCs, but hard building Sistine Chapel at high difficulties seems dangerous.
What is your general SP path?
At what point do you stop settling Great Artists and pop Golden Ages?
Some basics I've gathered along the way:
Research is just as important for Cultural as it is for Science Victories. Sign many RAs and aim to build the Porcelain Tower. The primary difference here between Science and Cultural is that with Cultural, you'll be working Artist/Landmarks instead of Scientists/Academies.
Golden Ages in G&K also provide 20% Culture. Aim for as many GAs (preferably extended) as possible.
Save Oxford University to get a critical tech. The most popular techs to save for seem to be Plastics (for Cristo Redentor), Ecology (for Sydney Opera House), or Radio (for Broadcast Towers).
Religion is a key component to Cultural VCs. Not only for Culture-related Religion enhancers (World Church, Oral Tradition, etc.) but also for the Religious buildings, especially the Cathedral. The Cathedral provides an Artist Slot and can really help boost Culture output and Great Artist generation very early in the game.
Save Representation and the finisher from the Liberty tree until late. Get the free Settler and Worker SPs early but save the GA and free GP (which you'll likely use for a GE to rush, say, Cristo Redentor or Sydney Opera House) for late-game.
Key wonders
Classical Era
- The Oracle (1 free Social Policy; this is extremely powerful because the free SP will not increase your subsequent SP costs meaning you've just saved yourself whatever the most expensive SP will cost)
Medieval Era
- Chicken Pizza ( 50% Golden Age length)
- Alhambra ( 20% Culture in the city it's built in; not as powerful as other Wonders but decent since it will scale)
Renaissance Era
- Sistine Chapel ( 25% Culture in all cities)
- Leaning Tower of Piza ( 25% Great Person generation in all cities, free Great Person)
- Porcelain Tower ( 50% more beakers from Research Agreements, free Great Scientist)
Industrial Era
- The Louvre (2 free Great Artists)
Modern Era
- Cristo Redentor (cost of adopting policies reduced by 10%)
Atomic Era
- Sydney Opera House (1 free SP; 50% Culture in the city it's built in)
