Wife and I recently went to Japan and visited Kyoto... so obviously I brought my laptop to start a game as Japan while we were there.
I'm determined to finish/win this game, but man, they start with 6 land tiles so you are immediately forced to try to pick up the tech to get your land units to embark.
If you manage to leave Japan and go north you'll either find Mongolia, Korea, or China who will likely have 5 cities by that point.
If you're looking for a challenge-- try this game out.
