I recently did a playthrough as Nigeria.

• I took over most of the west African city states
• Took over Egypt for the Pyramids wonder bonus
• America's culture was causing deep unrest (Nigeria starts as Order)
• Amassed a large navy and took Cuba
• Stockpiled four nukes just in time for America & Pakistan DOW
• Nuke Miami, Washington, storm with Navy. WA flips several times
• Dumb AI embarks a lot of units towards my mainland, which are easy to kill with Missile Cruisers

Yet, in this game, Russia switched to Liberty early on, and I stuck with Order. China had my back, but overall, even after taking down the Eastern Seaboard with all her wonders, America's culture still hovered over 70k and my people could not be happy.

I ended the game fighting off a coalition force of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan. Just after recapturing Cairo, Russia wins a science victory :(
