This is a follow up to a post I wrote a few days ago. The post can be found below.
My doctor performed a circumcision and a urethroplasty on me to repair a 1.5cm penile stricture at the tip of my penis. I was also diagnosed with a hypospadias distal, which, according to him, was simple since my hole was about a millimeter from where it was supposed to be. I remember going into the operating room, then waking up in recovery. From what I was told, the anesthesia did a number on me and my breathing had to be monitored. The nurse that kept watch over me was supportive, but not very helpful. When I was lucid, she gave me the okay to be discharged.
When I got home, I didn’t realize that the nurse didn’t pack catheter bags, nor did she provide me with catheter stabilizers. For the time being, I slept with a travel bag.
Two days later, I visited my urologist who gave me everything I needed. He also undid the bandage and said the wound was healing nicely.
As I type this, it is the beginning of day nine. My penis is still swollen, especially from the base, but less so than it was before. I’ve been using bacitracin on the wound and catheter, as instructed. Sometimes when I look down, I feel like I lost an inch and remember that swelling is a large part of this process.
The hardest part about this entire ordeal is the catheter. This is the most annoying and frustrating thing ever. Constantly feeling the urge to urinate, bladder spasms, shifting the stabilization device, and keeping everything clean is a nightmare.
I’ll follow up again when this catheter comes off on the 21st…
