in which /r/TheLastAirbender cannot stop fan casting white people to play Asian characters in the newly announced live-action adaptation
Post Body

This is a lazy fucking thread. I'm legitimately too burned out by it to put any effort into this.

^ whitewashing is COOL AND FUN

other dumb comments throughout subreddit, too lazy to link, I've been arguing with some of these people all day, getting GR8 bullshit, SUCH AS THIS LE GEM:

Super racist dude. Skin colour has nothing to do with the language you speak, the etymology of your name, or your culture. That’s like... the whole point of diversity.

God forbid in a fictional world white and black people are allowed to eat Asian food and write in Chinese and practice martial arts or name their children whatever they want.

Suki is not Japanese. She’s from Kyoshi Island. And has fair skin and blue eyes. Good luck finding a Japanese person with blue eyes.

....

I think you’re ignorant. And I think you need a lesson on biology, cultural studies, and just general equity.

You’re suggesting that the creators racially profile fictional cartoon characters from fictional nations to match our planets geographical and cultural divisions.... and then discriminate against talented actors. All because you think a white person cant have a Japanese name.

and I'm just beyond done!

THE WORLD OF AVATAR IS ENTIRELY BASED ON ASIAN CULTURE. The food, the written languages, the architecture, the clothing, even the character designs, EACH NATION IS BASED ON DIFFERENT PARTS OF ASIA
