AskReddit has a moment of self-awareness
Post Body

Thread in question: What does reddit do that makes you irrationally angry?

I was expecting the usual complaints about karma whoring, obnoxious quoting, how annoying /r/atheism is, how SRS is brigading every sub, AdviceAnimals, neckbeards, witch hunts, etc. But it's actully suprisingly sane and self-aware, even more so than usual.

People on Reddit are oblivious to the minority bubble they are in.

Most people want kids

Most people are not neckbeards, chads, alphas, or betas

A lot of people go to the gym. A lot. And generally, those gym stereotypes are really hard to find.

You can be attractive and a good person.

The majority of video gamers play casually (1-2 hours a days)

No one says anything to single dads in public. Rarely

The vast majority of men don't care about their hair or fashion.

Never encountered a SJW or feminazi in real life. Ever

I'm sure there are more [ 755]

I'll build off this list...

The majority of CEO's are not greedy, corrupt, or evil.

Most straight white men are not the devil.

Some people actually have normal parents.

Most college students don't give a single fuck about politics.[ 173]

Most straight white men are not the devil.

The reddit hivemind would obviously agree with this, and in fact the popular narrative on this website is that straight white males are the most oppressed group out there. [ 110]

Ok, this one's pretty basic, acknowledging that there's a world outside of reddit tends to come up everytime there's a meta discussion about reddit. But let's keep cruising...

Thinking that they're open-minded when they laugh at people who don't agree with them and call people stupid. [ 554]

Reddit is the least open minded site out there. If you dare have a opinion that goes against the majority here it'll be downvoted to hell. [ 266]

Another fairly obvious point, but still true of course.

Ok, so reddit can at least admit they make up a relatively small demographic of the population and that they're fairly small minded. And in all fairness, it's something they've admitted to before. But there's no way they'd go as far as admit to having issues with women and womens rights or being generally misogynistic, right? That jerk is too far ingrained in reddit's STEM-loving DNA. So we might as we... Wait, what's that? They actully admit to it for once?

Don't even think it is irrational but when people on here deny that Reddit is full of sexism. Of course not everyone here is. But the fact is a a lot of people here are quite frankly sexist and if people just accept that is the case maybe it will be more bearable. Look at the thread for the new Star Wars trailer, a lot of normal comments but still a few people complaining about the fact that there is a female lead for the second time. But it isn't just the complaint, someome literally saying they are trying to shove 'feminism down our throats', by having a female character? Like wtf. And they got 30 up votes, I don't care if it is only Karma it means at least 30 cunts agree with them. And you see it all the fucking time. And it isn't like you can just avoid some subs, because most of the subs suffer from these cunts. On r/television a while back a thread announcing that Jessica Jones would get a second series and of course there were people saying 'more feminist propaganda' and there was a comment about the show being anti male because the villain was male, what the fuck? I can't remember the thread but I remember a thread on askreddit asking something I can't remember but plus sized models came up and somebody got a few hundred upvotes and was gilded for essentially saying that overweight men typically decode to do something about their weight, whereas overweight women don't and just blame other factors for their weight. You're trying to tell me this site isn't sexist? Another time someone said they think Feminism is bullshit because 'their main argument is being triggered', their information is so lacking, it's like they think that everyone on Tumblr makes up society. Worst one, go to any Kesha related thread and see how long it takes for the comments to get locked. People saying she is lying and if you say that it is wrong/disgusting to assume that and pass it off as the truth then you get downvoted. It is completly fair to acknowledge that there is a lack of evidence, we don't know what happened, we can't just take her word for it. But to say that she is downright lying and pass it off as the truth is just poor. And mentioning that she may possibly be telling the truth and we can't just dismiss what she says, people get angry about that and say that you're not being fair on Dr.Luke when you didn't even say he is guilty. Just look at R/mensrights, on paper there shouldn't be anything wrong with the sub but when this gets posted https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/4dag9c/kesha_continues_to_push_her_bullshit_now_claiming/ yeah speaks for itself but anyone familiar with the poster knows he is an odious cuntbag, his post history is telling. This went off on a bit of a rant but this site is full of so many sexist cunts but if you say it to the wrong people then they will cry and call you a sjw or a white knight. I thought a sjw was supposed to be someone who thinks white people with dreadlocks are racist but apparently now you if you think sexist or racist things are sexist/racist you're a sjw But then you have to remember what the typical Reddit user is and the fact that so many of them always complain about fallacies and the world being overrun by sjw's. I just can't get my head around how sheltered from women some of these people are but yeah then you remember the Reddit stereotypes and it probably holds true for a good portion of these people. [ 38]

Yeah it's exhausting to see so many racist and sexist comments every single day. But the most troubling part is that these comments are upvoted and people attack you for not agreeing with them. I feel like my voice gets drowned out sometimes. [ 13]

BINGO! YOU DID IT REDDIT! Ok, it's not super many upvotes but at least it isn't downvoted and buried like it usually would be. And it doesn't even stop there!

Bitch about SJWs so much that in a funny twist they have become more annoying than SJWs. For every one SJW comment I see, I see probably 10 people preemptively bitching about SJW comments. [ 244]

I think it boils down to fear. Their viewpoints are being challenged and they don't like it. Atheism, feminism, and vegetarianism are three that come to mind. Just by having those views, people hear you challenging their viewpoints. You could do it as non-controversially as possible, and they will still feel threatened, because just by having the stance you are telling them they are wrong. [ 73]

Sometimes it's also just basic unawareness. It's that whole 'check your privilege' concept. Not everyone has the option to just opt out of these issues, even if they might want to. You generally do have that option if you're a straight white male, but not only is it there for you, you can basically go your entire life without ever seeing how that might not be the same for someone else. So you get those arguments like "What's she complaining about? I'd love to get 100 messages on my dating profile every day!", and sure, you probably would when you're looking for a date, but then if/when you want them to stop... welp. But more often, it just goes entirely unexamined, where the minute it gets uncomfortable, you can opt out again and out of sight out of mind it. [ 35]

Trying to empathize with other people and their struggles in life is pretty reasonable after all. Who would have thought?

Not to mention that a lot of the people you see getting called SJWs are pretty rational in the way they view social justice. I've never personally seen the stereotypical SJW on reddit unless they were joking (and, yes, I have seen SRS). I more see someone explaining their cause in a way that's both non-judgmental and informative, and then I see multiple responses that just say "TRIGGERED" or "You PC, bro?" and then you know for a fact that they both didn't read it and that they don't care to have their views challenged which, funnily enough, turns reddit into a safe space for people who don't want to talk about social justice issues. This is just my own experience as a SJW though :P Although I personally prefer to be either a SJS (social justice sorcerer) or a SJR (social justice ranger). [ 36]

A comment calling "SJW's" rational upvoted on reddit? What is is this, is it still april fool's somwhere in the world?

I'm sure there are brogressives, MRA's, KiA people, etc lurking somewhere in that thread, but for once their comments aren't on top display.
