A sailor's conundrum

Heading to sea in a few months, the boat I'm going to has a pretty strict liquid zippo-only lighter policy. While I don't plan on doing a ton of smoking and joking this patrol, I might bring a stick or two and we have a stop in a non-US port so I'll probably want to try a habano or two for the first time.

I've seen the countless cigar influencers telling their viewers they'll ruin their smoke with a zippo, as well as Cigar Rants saying that's total bullshit. I'm assuming the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but has anyone actually tried it?
