How do I swap the ctrl and search keys

I used emacs for my word processing, used to be I'd using gnome-tweak-tool to swap my ctrl key with capslock. Unfortunately, I've been unable to do this or even with xmodmap as the key to the left of 'a' seem permanently bound to Super_L.
Any one have any ideas? I'm running ubuntu-desktop on my Acer 720P, thanks!
