Iād post this in dogs but Iāve found that community to be a bit tightly wound.
Caramel is a big baby about getting wet, so days like this are hard on both of us. We only have so many indoor, dog friendly places here. Sheās not playful or treat driven, rejects toys. She just sulks.
Would this be a good reason to get her on doggy Prozac? I want to get her a companion but small dogs are hard to find in rescues & I wonāt buy a dog. Iāve thought about a kitten but Miss Kitty is already miffed at the attention Caramel gets & hates her āsisterā, even after 7 years. But Miss Kitty is my baby, sheās a former feral who only took to me. So risking alienating her further isnāt an option.
What do you do with a dog like this? I got her a snuffle , the I-dig (which I donāt recommend. Itās used more of a bed. She loves digging. If I filled a small pool with dirt & hid things for her to hunt, would that occupy her? Get her a big bin of mice to hunt?
Backstory on the bin/mouse. I had a mouse shed been hunting. He got into a bin of wildlife feed that was almost empty & Iād left the lid off. One day she jumped in there & I thought she was chasing her tail. She was trying to catch the mouse, who couldnāt escape. I carried the bin outside to let him escape but sheād already critically injured him or he died of fright. I felt so bad taking the mouse away.
I think next spring, Iām going to plant some native tall grasses in a confined area so she can grass surf. She romps through it at the park we go to. She has so much fun.
Suggestions in the meantime? Again, not treat driven or interested in toys. Tomorrow we will just visit all the dog friendly stores.
