I've been using DefleMask and FurnaceTracker, and for some reason always run into issues with the damn 3rd square wave channel. It seems to never wanna work in conjuction with the first 2 square waves/the noise channel, if at all. Somtimes it doesn't play any notes, or it'll just produce some sort of squeaky feedback sound, or a slight buzz. The first 2 channels seem to work as expected. Also, when "previewing" notes (as in using the keyboard when not in record mode) it works fine. The issue only happens when playing back the song.
I've already tried obvious stuff like making sure the volume level is set to 0xF, the 0xA effect is set to 0, the envelope isn't empty etc. The funny thing is that in some files it works fine, but in others with a slightly different composition, the sound issue is there. So I have no idea how to isolate it.
This has been happening in both trackers, so I'm inclined to think it's a technical limitation? Or an emulation issue. Or maybe some kind of interoperability problem with the YM2612? I'm assuming that the soundchip is perfectly capable of producing 3-tone polyphony with the square waves, as heard in various Sonic games for the game gear, so why is this happening? It's so frustrating. :/
Has this happened with anyone else?
