If you retire here at 60 with your PR, and have paid into social security, can you get a monthly pension as opposed to a lump sum payout?

Planning to retire here and I was just going to cash in my social security for the lump sum like most people do, but my wife reckons I will get a better deal by taking the monthly pension payment. Does anyone know if foreigners can do that? And if so, how it is calculated?
